周潤(rùn)發(fā)念了三年中學(xué)就到社會(huì)謀生,
語(yǔ)文基礎(chǔ)比較差,拍戲念對(duì)白比別人辛苦十倍。
后來(lái),他到美國(guó)拍片,在美國(guó)生活的時(shí)候,
決心學(xué)好英語(yǔ),由最基本的英語(yǔ)發(fā)音學(xué)起。
首先他跟太太一字一句學(xué),然后再請(qǐng)老師教導(dǎo),
又時(shí)常收看英語(yǔ)頻道節(jié)目,以增強(qiáng)英語(yǔ)聽(tīng)說(shuō)能力。
他一邊學(xué)一邊工作,雖然當(dāng)時(shí)已年過(guò)四十,
但他終于克服了困難。
對(duì)此,發(fā)哥說(shuō):“幾年前有中學(xué)教科書(shū)以我的
經(jīng)歷做教材,我非常驚喜,沒(méi)想到連小學(xué)教科書(shū)
都用我來(lái)做教材,這真是我的榮幸。”
發(fā)哥還說(shuō):“我希望香港年輕一代都可以不怕辛苦,
為理想努力,去達(dá)到目標(biāo),只要有心,我相信任何
困難都不用怕,以前我40歲時(shí)才去美國(guó)學(xué)英文,經(jīng)過(guò)
一年努力,總算能夠懂能夠聽(tīng),但學(xué)無(wú)止境,到今天
我一樣會(huì)繼續(xù)進(jìn)修英語(yǔ),不敢偷懶。”

Reap 習(xí)慣用語(yǔ):
①reap as [what] one has sown (=As a man sows so he shall reap)種瓜得瓜; 種豆得豆 自食其果
② reap where one has not sown不勞而獲
underline the topic sentence in each paragraph.
Para.1: Learning a foreign language was one of the most difficult yet most rewarding experiences of my life.
Para. 2: My experience with learning a foreign language in junior school was very happy.
Para. 3: My experience in senior school was frustrating and unhappy.
Para. 4: The situation changed in college, but it was far from perfect.
Para. 5: I was offered an opportunity to study English through an online course.
Para. 6: Online learning is not easier than regular classroom study.
Para. 7: I practiced all the time.

HOWEVER 副詞:無(wú)論如何,然而,不過(guò) 連詞:不論怎樣
I tried hard in listening to her, however(連詞), she made me confused at last.
However(副詞), the situation was far from perfect. (Para.4) :
While my former teacher had been patient with all the students, but my new teacher quickly punished those who gave incorrect answers. (para.3)
While :conjunction.轉(zhuǎn)折連詞 在主句和從句中,一般用在主句里,或句子開(kāi)頭,用來(lái)表示轉(zhuǎn)折意義。
Not only do I need you, but he also need you.
Not only (Only)…否定詞開(kāi)頭的句子:句子主語(yǔ)和謂語(yǔ)要倒裝,為的是強(qiáng)調(diào)作用。后面的分句不用倒裝。
如:1. Not only did we enjoy the film, but we also had a wonderful time. 我們不僅看了電影,而且玩得很痛快。
2. Only in this way can you hope to finish the work at the end of this month. 只有用這種方法你才有望在月底之前完成這項(xiàng)工作。

Unlike my senior middle school teacher, ... (Para.4)
: unlike:介詞 (prep.)different from 與…不同
Unlike me, my son Mike likes get up early.

Be far from… 遠(yuǎn)不是… ,表否定

Reading skills: word meanings
找出生詞的意義,有以下幾種方法:
1. 根據(jù)題目已給出的定義(definition)確定;
e.g.: Desalination, or the removal of salt from seawater, is a method of providing fresh water for use.
2. 根據(jù)題干中列舉的例子推斷新詞詞義,例子推斷題通常會(huì)出現(xiàn)such as, for example, for instance, including 等等 列舉例子的詞:
E.g.: As they moved westward, they
faced many adversities, such as extreme weather and loneliness.
3. 根據(jù)上下文出現(xiàn)的同義詞(synonyms)或反義詞(antonyms)推斷句中生詞:
E.g.: Cell phones have became ubiquitous: you can see and hear them everywhere.
4. 根據(jù)生詞的詞干或前后詞綴推斷詞義:
E.g.: Business are redesigning their offices to provide better working environment for their employees.
5. 根據(jù)整句話的意義推斷句中生詞詞義:
E.g.:It took a whole day for them to extricate the little girl from the bottom of the well.
